Stay away from some of the unsafe items that aren’t necessary for your initial baby bedding. Blankets and pillows in the crib are unsafe for newborn babies; reserve blankets for keeping baby warm outside the crib, and keep pillows on the rocking chair to help provide back support for mom.
It is wise to use the nursery decor items that are included in many bedding sets on the outside of the crib and closely monitored, or just wait to use them when your son is a toddler.
