The National Football League season is fast approaching, and that means a financial decision is in order for many bigtime NFL fans. No I’m not referring to those who buy season tickets for their favorite team. This is the time of year that many have to figure out whether the NFL Sunday Ticket package is in their budget. Lets take a look at a few of the frequently asked questions about this popular package.

Is the NFL Sunday Ticket available on Comcast or Time Warner cable?

No. This package remains an exclusive of Direct TV. In fact, the contract to carry the NFL package has been renewed by the NFL and Direct TV, meaning you will only get full access on satellite TV through the year 2014. There is some hope that the Red Zone channel may be available to cable TV companies and Dish Network, but it won’t be happening in the 2009 season.

How much is the package going to cost this year?

At this time, early bird customers can get the NFL bundle for 9.95, or five payments of $55.99. The regular price is expected to be $300 for the full season.

Are all of the games going to be in HD?

Only if you subscribe to the Superfan bundle in addition to Sunday Ticket. Superfan is 0, or five payments on your Direct TV billing statement. It will provide HD access, as well as the Red Zone channel and SuperCast access which will allow you to stream the games to your computer or cell phone.

How will I know what games are included?

The NFL package will show you all of the games that are not on regular network or cable TV. This means all of the early and late games on Sunday. The Monday Night Football game and the Sunday evening games will continue to be on ESPN and NBC respectively.

So is the Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket package in your budget this year? With costs nearing 0 for Sunday Ticket games in HD, it certainly is a decision that you shouldn’t rush to make.

DirecTV is marking third quarter of 2008 with a great deal on their NFL Sunday Ticket plan. The regular season for the NFL doesn’t start until September, but training camp starts in late July for most NFL teams, and the pre-season games start in August. Maybe you have passed on the Sunday Ticket deal in the past. If so, now is the time to find the best deals out there, as this is the start of the busy time of year for DirecTV.

Now if you haven’t heard of this tremendous package, here are the details on DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. Designed as the premium football viewing package, it is designed to give you viewing access to every single NFL game. Usually, most viewers will see four or five games a week on network television, the Sunday morning and afternoon games, the Sunday Night game on NBC, and then Monday night football.

Now if you live in the area where “your” home team plays, you can usually see your team play on network TV. However, if you don’t live in that market, you would have to make a trip down to the local bar to watch your team’s game. Since Direct TV began the Sunday Ticket package a few years back, you can always see your home team, from the comfort of your own house.

While out of area fans make up a strong base for the NFL Sunday Ticket, there are other fans that need this package as well. Fantasy football enthusiasts have been subscribing to the package, as it lets them check in on their fantasy players at any time. Another group buying up the package is those who may have a little money on NFL games. They love the Direct TV Sunday Ticket as it lets them keep up on who covers the spread.

What about price? In past years, the Direct TV Sunday ticket cost has been around $250 per season, billed over 4 monthly installments. This year’s price for existing DirecTV subscribers will be almost $300 dollars. Those who sign up in time get a break on the price.

New Direct TV subscribers can take advantage of the offer on the Sunday Ticket. Current offers bill the same price .99 per month for 4 months, with a great start up bonus. New customers signing up for NFL Ticket can get the Direct TV Premier package free for 4 months.  If you want the Superfan package add on though, you will have to pay an extra $100 for HD.  This is DirecTV’s top end package, with 265 stations, 35 sports stations, and also free movie channels.

Free DVR service is also included and an HD DVR upgrade rounds out this great offer on dish television service.
